"In today's competitive market place, creativity is the
only way to set your self apart."

Workshop Description:
Sherron Sheppard and April Visel invite you to join them for 5 days of creative-art Photoshop, Corel Painter and equine photography. Sherron and April, working together, will provide the diversity of years of technical knowledge and emotionally charged artistic inspiration.

This Photoshop, Painter & photography workshop will provide numerous carefully planned horse photography shoots with riders in authentic costumes featuring some of the most beautiful and majestic equine photography subjects in the world, on location, in once in a lifetime settings, including the golden beaches of Summerland and the spectacular mountains and valleys of Santa Ynez, CA. When we are not on location, we will have a full schedule of "hands on" digital art training.

Expanding on the basic knowledge you already possess, our unique "creative art" approach will help you learn to merge the reality of a photograph with the artistic expression of traditional art mediums, producing an entirely new creative style. Sherron's knowledge and skills as a traditional artist, as well as a digital artist, will enable you to use the art concepts and techniques learned in this Photoshop/Painter class to raise the quality of your work to a "gallery fine-art" level. In addition, with Sherron's help, you will begin to recognize the little things that give your images more impact, and start to analyze your own images from an "artist point of view".

Several styles of fine art will be explored in Photoshop and Corel Painter as time allows, including, oil painting, watercolor, cross processing, pen and ink, pastels, digital infrared, custom deckle edges, custom burn and dodging to a fine art level, making images pop, adding a diffused glow, art history painting, porcelain glow, and other artistic styles.

In addition, basic Photoshop and Corel Painter techniques will be covered that are needed to create "Digital Art" including, preferences for painting in Photoshop, layers and layer masks, removing distracting backgrounds, color correcting with variations, custom shortcuts, creating custom brushes in Painter, and more.

Location:
Santa Ynez Valley, California

The Santa Ynez Valley is a river valley located in Santa Barbara County, California, between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the San Rafael Mountains.

The 2004 film Sideways was set (and shot on location) in the Santa Ynez Valley. Since then, visits from tourists looking to recreate the experiences of the fictional characters Miles and Jack, have become common. Fans of the movie can often be seen making a pilgrimage from the Buellton Days Inn to the Hitching Post restaurant.

Horses are seen all throughout the valley and a historic Western atmosphere is kept alive and well. Notable ranches include Monty Roberts' "Flag Is Up Farms", River Edge Farm (thoroughbreds), and the nationally-known Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center, as well as the majority of all Arabian farms on the West Coast!

The wine industry is a major part of the Santa Ynez Valley's economy. The Visitors Association lists over 70 wineries and tasting rooms on their website. Tourists flock to the valley for these many attractions including numerous art galleries, wine tasting rooms, and antique stores as well as resorts such as the Alisal Guest Ranch, Lake Cachuma and the Chumash Casino. Because of good weather year round, many participate in outdoor activities such as hiking in the nearby Los Padres National Forest or bicycling throughout the valley (seven time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong trains in the valley annually).

Settled right in the center of the Valley, Solvang, which means "Sunny Field" in Danish, was founded in 1911 on Spanish land by a group of Danish educators. The settlers of this city left for the west to escape midwestern winters. The city is home to several bakeries, restaurants, and merchants offering a taste of Denmark in California. The architecture of many, even most, of the buildings follows traditional Danish styles. It is a real treat!
